Compensation:
This position starts at $17.45* per hour.  *Hourly rate may vary based on education, experience or qualifications.

 *Regular, full time employees will be eligible for health insurance benefits on the first day of the month following sixty days of full time employment.  Health insurance benefits include medical, prescription, dental and vision.

Responsible for the day-to-day monitoring and operation of the wastewater treatment and water reclamation facility, influent pump station and elevated storage tanks for the City of Eldorado.

Job Competencies: Essential Functions include the following. Duties and responsibilities, as required by business necessity may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing. Schedule and shift assignments and work location may be changed at any time, as required by business necessity.

 
  1. Collects wastewater samples and specific tests, measuring the quality of the wastewater sample
  2. Analyzes test results, records results of the tests on daily work sheets and assures chemicals are properly balanced
  3. Conducts follow-up testing as instructed by assuring for continuous monitoring of water in process. 
  4. Maintains an awareness of all chemicals, supplies, and equipment required to operate the plant
  5. Monitors the treatment process and makes appropriate changes, assuring appropriate levels and amounts of spare parts needed to operate the plant exist in current inventory and notifies supervisor of need to reorder supplies and chemicals 
  6. Conducts operational tests and monitors all equipment
  7. Maintains bio solids composting operations including, windrowing, turning, and temperature readings per 503 regulations
  8. Assists with land application of bio solids and enters data into the computer
  9. Maintains on-call status on a four-week rotating basis, utilizing remote monitoring
  10. Reviews and examines new products and technology and fields tests new products as they become available
  11. Assists with special projects and committee work as requested
  12. Follows a plan for routine preventive maintenance and completes the plan assuring for the proper operation of all equipment by listening, feeling, smelling, and observing
  13. Identifies or receives notification of equipment requiring maintenance attention, and conducts a physical inspection of malfunctioning equipment and makes a diagnosis
  14. Follows a plan for corrective action, assembles supplies and equipment needed to make the needed repairs, assuring supplies and equipment are available
  15. Completes the plan and provides instruction and training for personnel assuring for an optimal training experience
  16. Communicates with outside contractors to obtain quotes and assistance to maintain City equipment and facilities
  17. Communicates with the supervisor and others regarding process or status changes assuring for continuous communications
  18. Maintains a log of the time the equipment has been in operation, maintenance activities, availability of equipment, and any unusual conditions concerning equipment, safety, or operating conditions that staff should be aware of
  19. Keeps Wetlands and Water Reclamation facility and equipment clean and free of safety hazards 
  20. Performs maintenance work in a variety of areas including plumbing, electrical and machine work
  21. Assists other City departments as requested
  22. Develops ideas or suggestions for improvements and modifications to the facilities and obtains approval on potential changes
  23. Enforces and maintains compliance with all federal, state and local laws and ordinances
  24. Performs other duties as assigned or deemed necessary
  25. Complies with all organizational and departmental policies and procedures
  26. Operates all job-related equipment, machinery, tools and other aids as required or needed
  27. Protects and maintains any confidential information you have access to, whether oral, written, or electronic

Position Requirements:
High school diploma or other equivalent

Certifications / Licenses:
Ability to obtain State of Kansas Wastewater System Operator Class I Certification within 18 months of hire
 
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
  1. Knowledge of wastewater treatment equipment, monitoring requirements and laboratory testing materials
  2. Ability to operate chemical feeding, pumps, safety, filtration and laboratory equipment
  3. Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work
  4. Ability to fulfill all duties with minimal supervision and to work independently
  5. Assess situations rapidly and make logical decisions in a timely manner
  6. Analyze facts and exercise sound judgment
  7. Ability to effectively manage projects and multiple priorities simultaneously
  8. Strong written and verbal communication skills
